What is the ALVMA Health Plan?

ALVMA offers four Health Plans. The Platinum Plan, Gold Plan, Silver Plan and the Bronze Plan. All plans are administered by BlueCross BlueShield (BCBS) and provide the maximum benefits when a BCBS provider is used for services. The ALVMA Platinum Plan and Silver Plan includes both primary and secondary insurance. The secondary insurance is offered through MedPlus and creates maximum savings for the plan’s participants.

What is Secondary insurance?

What is secondary insurance?
Secondary insurance helps pay remaining medical costs after your primary insurance has paid its share.

For the ALVMA Health Plan:

  • Platinum Plan: Covers up to $3,500 after your $500 deductible, reducing your total out-of-pocket to about $3,300.
  • Silver Plan: Covers up to $2,000 after your $2,000 deductible, reducing your total out-of-pocket to about $4,800.

Be sure to show both your primary (BCBS) and secondary (MedPlus) ID cards at each visit so your providers bill correctly.

Who is Eligible for the ALVMA Health Plan?

ALVMA members who are directly involved in a veterinary medicine practice are eligible for the ALVMA Health Plan. Members must have at least one common law employee to be eligible for the ALVMA Health Plan. Sole proprietors without at least one common law employee are not eligible to participate in the plan. Please contact Southview Benefits for more information at patrick@southviewbenefits.com.

What if I’m already offering a small group health plan to my employees?

You may transfer to the ALVMA at your current plans renewal or at ALVMAs open enrollment period. To begin this process please reach out to Southview Benefits at patrick@southviewbenefits.com. Please note that you must notify all impacted employees of this change and allow them the option to opt out. Employees who wish to change their benefit elections must do so through the Optix portal.

Could I elect Dental, without participating in the Medical Plan?

Yes. Both Dental and Medical can be elected separate of each other, or together if preferred.

Can Vision be elected as a solitary benefit?

Vision can only be elected if Medical and/or Dental is elected. It cannot be elected by itself.

When and how do I enroll?

The ALVMA Health Plan renews January 1, and our Open Enrollment is held in November each year. Open Enrollment is the one time per year we are allowed to onboard new members to the plan. If your company is an existing plan member and has a new hire, you have the ability to enroll them in the Optix portal at patrick@southviewbenefits.com.

What if an employee who elected the benefit gets fired or quits? How is the benefit offered to new hires?

Members will be responsible for submitting adds, terminations, and changes for their employees in the Optix portal.
